The world of the DINO-PIRATES is a vast archipelago, thousands of islands stretching out along the southeast coast of the great Empire. These islands teem with myriad kingdoms, cultures, towns, beasts and ancient ruins.
And of course, they teem with PIRATES, NINJAS and DINOSAURS. How can this be? Well, to understand, we have to go over a little bit of history...
A Little Bit of History
Some denizens of the islands have been here a long time...
Way Back When
These islands have been populated for as long as anyone can remember. There are many different NATIVE groups living here, some in splendid civilizations that build great cities and towering temples, other subsisting in only the rudest form of society. There have been cannibals, priests, warriors and shaman living here for centuries. Many of the native civilizations have passed on, leaving only monumental ruins as mute evidence of their once-mighty dominion.
And as long as the natives have lived among these islands, the EMPIRE has desired control over the islands. The great Empire to the north, ruled for generations by a god-emperor who maintained control through his fearsome cadres of sorcerers and the unseen ninja clans that served as his silent army, has invaded the islands countless times. Though none of the invasions ever acquired more than a temporary foothold amidst the tangled jungles, the natives who suffered Imperial attacks have learned to hate and fear the Empire.
The DINO-PIRATES Arrive
This hatred made the PIRATES welcome when they first arrived. Nobody can say for sure who the first pirates among these islands were, but their ranks have grown over the years and now those who call themselves pirates are nearly as numerous as the natives themselves. Many natives have taken up the corsair's life, and direct their hatred of the Empire towards those Imperial vessels unfortunate enough to fall into their hands. Even Imperial citizens can be found walking the decks of a pirate ship, turned against their countryman by morals, or just opportunity.
The Founding of NINJA ISLAND
The NINJAS are the most recent arrivals here, and their status remains uneasy. Some years ago, the Imperial Sorcerers broke with their lord and pulled of a coup d'etat, destroying in a stroke of arcane fury the very essence of the Empire's government. The land fell into chaos and the Emperor's most loyal soldiers, the secretive ninjas, were forced to flee. Many clans found their way to the relative safety of the islands, establishing themselves where they could. Some clans continue to hope for the opportunity to re-establish the Imperial Family and the glory of the Empire, while others have found a taste for freedom.
