The Island of the SLAVE QUEEN

Updated: Sept. 17, 3:27 p.m.

This island is a canonical part of the DINO-PIRATES OF NINJA ISLAND setting. You can still edit it, but aware that the admins may revert your changes if they don't align with the overall vision of the setting.

Summary

The much-feared home of the even-more feared SLAVE QUEEN, she of the RUINED CITY fame. High cliffs, pterodactyls and mind control…

Not many people can present clear, uncontestable facts about this island, despite its notoriety.

Not far from major shipping lanes, this small, cliff-ringed island echoes night and day with terrible screams, as if people were being constantly tortured. Which is in fact the most popular theory: the island is full of people who are constantly being tortured.

Folks who land here are almost never seen again, and since “landing” here really means “running aground on sharp rocks in high seas and being cast adrift (if you even survive) onto a narrow lifeless stretch of beach at the base of two-hundred-foot-high cliffs”, few enough people ever attempt it.

Those foolish (or unlucky) enough to land and lucky (or clever) enough to escape report a stunningly beautiful queen who rules over a population of unthinking slaves at the midst of an ancient city now fallen to ruins.

She is known, therefore, as THE SLAVE QUEEN OF THE RUINED CITY. Catchy.

What exactly the SLAVE QUEEN is up to, who she might be working with (or against), and how the screaming ties into all that, is difficult to determine. There is no trade from this island to any other, although it is rumoured the SLAVE QUEEN regularly sends out slave-gathering expeditions of her cringing minions. Throughout the islands, folks who disappear may be thought to have been taken by the SLAVE QUEEN. It is rare that anyone thinks rescuing those poor souls is a good idea.

Doctor Kalchok's Raygun

Owner: barsoomcore

Doctor Kalchok is one of the SLAVE QUEEN’s most trusted lieutenants. He is a forbidding man dressed most often in a long black leather coat and lab goggles. He is as mad a mad scientist as one will ever find, and the SLAVE QUEEN has made potent use of his insane inventions.

Like his RAYGUN. It’s the size of musket, only heavier, and it shoots wild green lightning more or less at whatever you point it at. In practice, the attack is an area attack that fills a cone for 30 feet in front of the weapon. All targets caught in the blast must make a DC 18 Fortitude save or be paralyzed. Each round, they can make another save with a +1 bonus to try to beat the effect.

The raygun is kind of fiddly, though; each time Doctor Kalchok uses it, he must make a roll — on a 1, the device explodes in a spectacular (though harmless) fashion. For folks who lack the Doctor’s skill with devices of mad science, such an explosive failure occurs on a roll of a 4 or less. Be careful!
