This rapidly-growing island features rivers of lava, sulfur springs, geysers and volcanic vents.

The Isle of the Smiths is inhabited by a tribe known as the Smiths or, in their own peculiar language, the Vindiseli. Perhaps through the use of sorcery or perhaps due to their alleged peculiar inheritance from their phoenix ancestor, the Smiths are able to handle the lava their island produces with no ill effects.
Able to sculpt the molten rock with their hands and to launch it as projectiles at hostile ships, the Smiths are widely feared, with most ships keeping a wide berth around the isle, which is defended by a series of catapults that fire cauldrons of lava at passing ships.
Although the Smiths can become skilled fishermen, they prefer to import all of their food in exchange for the crude iron and basalt tools and sculptures they make. Their unique capacity to repair and reforge damaged metal make them crafters of last resort for those seeking to restore damaged iron, steel and stone objects. It is these desperate individuals who trade dried saltfish, dried kelp and the most coveted of all materials on the island, asbestos fiber (from which the Smiths fashion their clothing), to the Smiths.
